Beautiful Family Photoshoot with Grandparents at Pollok Country Park, Glasgow

WHy FAMILY PHOTOSHOOT WITH GRANDPARENTS AT POLLOK COUNTRY PARK, GLASGOW?
Pollok Country Park is one of those rare places where you can find a bit of everything in one beautiful pocket of Glasgow—wild meadows, ancient woods, elegant stone walls wrapped in fiery autumn leaves, winding cobblestone paths, manicured gardens, and a bridge that looks like it belongs in an old Scottish film. It’s no surprise that it’s a favourite park not only for a weekend walk, but also for a family photoshoot. Wherever you turn, there is a beautiful spot waiting to become the perfect backdrop, whether for family photography sessions, a maternity session, or simply a chance to create lasting memories.
When this lovely multi-generational family reached out to me, they knew exactly where they wanted their session—right here, in this park Glasgow locals treasure so deeply. The couple had travelled all the way from Japan with their seven-month-old son Sora to visit the grandparents living in Scotland, and they wanted to capture this rare and precious time together. Seeing three generations reunited felt incredibly meaningful, and knowing they had flown across continents made the day even more special.
A Family That Travelled Across the World
The morning of the session had that soft autumn light photographers dream about, the kind that wraps everything in gentle warmth. The weather was calm, which felt like a small gift—especially in Glasgow, where you never quite know what the sky will decide to do.
The family’s outfits blended beautifully with the season. They wore neutrals with small touches of yellow, a subtle pop of colour that stood out against the deep reds of the ivy-covered wall and the earthy tones around the park. Their little dog even joined in, trotting around proudly and happily photobombing some of the shots, which added even more joy and authenticity.
From the moment we started walking, I could tell this was going to be an unforgettable family photoshoot. Sora, my baby boy model, calm and curious, simply took everything in—new sounds, new scenery, the soft breeze. Babies at this age give such pure expressions, and photographing them is always a treat.

Exploring Pollok Park Together
We wandered through the gardens of Pollok House, stopping whenever something caught the family’s eye. The bridge over the river was a favourite—its stone arch, softened by moss and surrounded by trees, is the kind of location photographers dream of.
The mix of structured gardens and wild nature makes Pollok Park such a versatile country park. You can walk ten minutes and move from open fields to shaded forest paths, from historical architecture to open green spaces filled with children, friends, dogs, and families enjoying the day. It’s the perfect place to create images that feel both timeless and full of life.
During our session, we focused on a combination of gently guided portraits and candid, movement-filled moments. We let the family play, cuddle, wander, and simply enjoy being together. While we made sure to take classic family photos, most of the session was about storytelling—capturing the emotion and connection that naturally unfolded.
There were special moments of quiet tenderness, like grandma softly kissing Sora’s forehead, and moments of pure laughter as grandpa made funny faces behind me to make the baby smile. These little scenes are exactly what family photography is all about: creating memories that feel true and warm, rather than staged.

Generations Connected Through Glasgow’s Southside
One of the most unexpected—and wonderful—parts of the day happened in the middle of the session. While chatting with the grandparents, I discovered that the grandfather actually grew up in the very southside area of Glasgow where I live now. His stories flowed so naturally: how he used to run through the same streets my children now know so well, how he went to the same school they currently attend, and how the city looked during his childhood.
Hearing about the past shaped my understanding of the place I call home, and it reminded me once again why I love this job so much. Photography gives me the chance not only to capture moments, but also to learn about the people and histories connected to the location. It adds depth to the images—almost as if the memories of previous decades gently echo in the backgrounds.
Why Families Love Pollok Park for Photos
Many families who book family photography sessions ask me why Pollok Park appears so often in my portfolio. The truth is that it doesn’t matter if you’re photographing kids, teenagers, parents, babies, or grandparents—this park simply works. It has the right mix of textures, tones, and wide open room for children to move freely. For families with dogs, it’s a dream. For couples planning small elopements or weddings, it’s unbelievably scenic. And for anyone worried about posing, the surroundings do half the job by helping you feel relaxed.
It’s a perfect location to capture love, connection, and the kind of natural laughter that happens when you forget the camera is there.
Whether you’re visiting from abroad or you’re a lifelong Glaswegian, Pollok Park has a way of making people feel at home.
A Session Filled With Love and Movement
As we continued exploring, we mixed in different types of shots—soft portraits, interactive moments, gentle close-ups, and wider scenes showing the landscape. The images from this day show everything I adore about family photography: genuine emotion, subtle storytelling, and natural movement. The fun, the closeness, the stillness, and the chaos—all wrapped into one.
For this family, these photos will be more than just pictures. They will be a way to treasure the connection between generations, to reflect on the season of life they’re in, and to hold onto a visit that meant so much to all of them.
