Winter Maternity Photography at Mugdock Country Park – A December Sunset Session with Anita & Ali
As a maternity and family photographer, I truly believe that every stage of pregnancy deserves to be celebrated and remembered. I’m Kinga Szulz, a maternity photographer based in Glasgow, and winter has become one of my favourite seasons for maternity photography. This December, I had the pleasure of photographing a beautiful couple, Anita and Ali, during a calm and relaxed maternity session held near Mugdock Country Park.
Winter maternity photos have a unique kind of magic. The world slows down, colours soften, and life feels more reflective. Anita and Ali’s session took place just before sunset, with open views towards the Campsie Hills, small lochs nearby, and winter grasses glowing gold in the low sun. It was a peaceful day, filled with quiet joy, connection, and anticipation for their baby.
Why Winter Maternity Photography Is So Special
A winter maternity photoshoot offers something very different from summer sessions. In Scotland, winter landscapes are subtle and emotional. Even when the park is no longer green, the textures, shapes, and tones create incredibly beautiful and natural backdrops.
During winter outdoor sessions, there are fewer people around, which allows couples to truly enjoy the moment. The weather may be cold, but the atmosphere is often calm and intimate. Soft light, misty air, and sometimes even fog add depth and mood to photography.
For many women, winter pregnancy is a time of reflection. The body is changing, energy levels can shift, and emotions feel closer to the surface. Capturing this season through maternity photos allows families to pause, reflect, and create something truly memorable.
This maternity session took place near Mugdock Country Park, one of my favourite locations for maternity photography close to Glasgow. The area offers wooden walkways, open fields, winding paths, and incredible views across the Scottish landscape. A gentle walk through the park reveals small lochs, dried grasses, and layers of hills that stretch towards the horizon. With the Campsie Hills in the background, the location feels open and peaceful. It’s the kind of place where you can slow down, explore, and simply breathe. Many families who visit this area say it reminds them of places like Loch Lomond, yet it’s only a short drive from the city. For UK families looking for a natural but accessible spot, this area is perfect for a maternity session.
Anita & Ali – A Calm and Beautiful Pregnancy Journey
WINTER MATERNITY PHOTOGRAPHY AT MUGDOCK COUNTRY PARK
Anita and Ali arrived at their maternity photoshoot feeling excited but calm. Their pregnancy journey had been filled with mixed emotions – moments of excitement, moments of wait, and the very real physical side of pregnancy, including fatigue and occasional morning sickness.
What stood out most was their connection. Ali was incredibly supportive, staying close, offering warmth, and sharing quiet smiles. Watching a couple prepare for a new chapter in their family life is always deeply moving. These are the real moments I love to capture – gentle touches, laughter, and the quiet joy of waiting for a baby.
This session wasn’t about perfect posing. It was about allowing space for emotions, creating fun where it felt natural, and capturing honest photographs that reflect who they truly are.

Styling the Session – White Dresses in Winter Nature
Anita wore a flowing white dress that looked stunning against the winter landscape. The soft fabric moved beautifully in the breeze, reflecting the warm tones of the sunset. White works wonderfully in winter maternity photography, offering contrast while still feeling timeless and elegant.
Client wardrobe available
Very often, the outfit itself is one of the biggest concerns for expecting mothers when they start thinking about a maternity photoshoot — especially a winter outdoor session. I completely understand this. Pregnancy is a time when our bodies change so much, and we don’t always feel our best. We also rarely buy new dresses just for this stage, knowing that our bodies will continue to change after birth. That’s exactly why I offer a client wardrobe for my clients. It includes a carefully curated selection of dresses that beautifully highlight the baby bump, suit different bodies and style and work perfectly for winter maternity sessions. Many of these dresses can also be styled afterwards for everyday wear — paired with thick tights, boots, and warm thermal layers. This way, you don’t have to worry about what to wear and can fully focus on enjoying the moment and celebrating this special chapter of your life.
Your body deserves care and respect during pregnancy, and feeling warm and supported makes a huge difference to how you feel during a session.

A December Sunset Filled with Emotion
December sunsets are brief but incredibly powerful. As the sun dipped behind the hills, the sky turned soft shades of gold and pink. This was my favourite moment of the day. The light wrapped gently around Anita and Ali, creating images that felt intimate and emotional winter maternity photoshoot at Mudgock Country Park.
Sunset sessions often bring a sense of pause. Couples naturally slow down, hold each other closer, and take a breath. These are the moments that become memories – the ones families will treasure for years to come.
What a Maternity Photoshoot with Me Looks Like
Every maternity session I create is carefully planned but never rushed. Before the shoot, we discuss ideas, plan the location, outfits, and timing. During the session, I guide gently, allowing natural movement and connection to lead.
There is always time to wait, warm up, and rest. Laughter and fun are welcome, and nothing is forced. My goal is to create a relaxed, safe space where couples can simply be themselves. This approach results in pictures that feel honest, emotional, and full of life.

Winter Pregnancy – Real Life, Real Feelings
Winter pregnancy can be challenging. Short days, low energy, and physical changes can feel overwhelming. Many women experience fatigue, sensitivity, and emotional shifts. A maternity photoshoot is not about hiding these experiences, but about honouring them.
Photography has the power to form a bridge between how you feel now and how you will remember this time in the future. These images become a way to hear your own story, to remember your strength, and to celebrate what your body is creating.

Creating Memories for Your Family
Maternity photos are not just for today. They are for your baby, your children, and your future family. One day, these pictures will help tell the story of where it all began.
In a world that moves quickly, photographs allow us to slow down and hold onto what matters. They turn fleeting moments into something tangible – something amazing, something beautiful, something that feels like a dream captured in time.
